I Have a Theory

February 20, 2011

Olivier Theysken’s second collection for Theory was hotly anticipated last week. The top secret show, whose location and time were only known to those who received hand-delivered invitations, delivered a line saturated with hipness. These clothes will be what all the cool girls will be wearing downtown come Fall, and I will for sure be turning back to the show again and again for inspiration. The deliciously  moody collection was the perfect example of what American contemporary wear can be when helmed by a European designer. Theysken’s signature was subtle; his favorite details from his time at Rochas could be found in the tailoring of the pants and the silhouettes of the strong-shouldered jackets and swinging maxi coats. The gritty tone was a nod to his Belgian background, while the grunge influence kept it rooted in modern Americana. The best part is? While still out of my reach (damn) Theory is an affordable label, mostly falling in the $200-$400 range.
