Color Me Gucci

February 27, 2011

If you want to know what colors to wear this Fall, look no further than the Gucci show.  I usually don’t have a problem with the generally somber and mostly monochromatic color palettes of the Fall collections, but it was so much fun to see bursts of brights on the runway. Gucci fell in line with the emerging trends of the season, alternating between forties and seventies notions of femininity with a healthy dose of fur, so it was their choice of color that really made them stand out. With the exception of green (which is fine, because green is lame), the whole spectrum of the rainbow was shown and turned up to Technicolor brights: brilliant blues, lush purples, rich reds, and tart citrus shades gave the clothes an unexpected twist. It particularly made a statement with the forties-inspired wear; the contrast between being used to seeing these looks in black-and-white and seeing them in eye-popping color was especially pleasing. Another highlight? The hats were uhmazing.
