Obsessed: Tuxedo Slippers

September 27, 2011

There are many, many things to love about Fall, especially when it comes to the fashion, but a spot in the top three best things would definitely have to be reserved for the versatility of shoe options. You don’t have to worry about practicality yet, or ruining them in the snow, or keeping your feet toasty and dry. The layering and mood of Fall wardrobes lends itself so much more to boots, heels, wedges, flats, slip-ons, and sneakers than the frills of a Spring wardrobe. It’s time to switch it up and experiment, and this season I’ve suddenly been struck by a craving for tuxedo slippers.

What I love about them is that they’re a fresh take on the masculine-feminine trope running through the past handful of seasons. I still love Oxfords and brogues, but they’ve become ubiquitous. Loafers can be cute, but they can also read too casual or dowdy. Tuxedo slippers have the elegance of  a ballet flat with the style and attitude of a brogue, all with the comfort of loafers. And with such broad potential for versatile styling, they’re a sure way to stand out from the crowd. (I’m a big fan of using them to sport the pony hair trend popping up with accessories.) They would be an excellent match for the cropped tailored pants of the season, paired with a simple tee and slouchy blazer, or with cuffed boyfriend jeans and a sweater.
